Subluxation Defined in Newark, NJ

Here at Vida Chiropractic care clinic, we take great pride in educating both our patients and the general public about neck and spine health. We’re proud of all of you for conducting your own research. We are thrilled to educate and answer your questions both within our chiropractic blog itself. A recurring question that we answer is: “Just what is “subluxation” and how is it treated”?

When a vertebrae or other joint becomes misaligned or stops moving properly, it has historically been referred to in the chiropractic profession as a subluxation. These changes in normal joint biomechanics or “subluxations” can be caused by a wide range of issues ranging from a minor slip or bump to a car accident or any sudden trauma. When a vertebrae is subluxated, these altered movement patterns begin to put pressure and cause irritation to the nerves, blood vessels and everything around it. This pressure comes with a price. The subluxation and associated tissue irritation interferes with the normal nervous system pathways that allow for communication between the body and the brain. This is why you may feel like your there is pain in your leg or tingling in your hands even though there is nothing wrong with your leg or hands. The message is getting scrambled due to interference on the line.

As time goes by and a subluxation remains untreated, the spine and surrounding features such as discs begin to degenerate. This degeneration becomes more difficult to reverse as time goes by as the surrounding muscles, nerves and bones begin to adjust to the new shape. The body is an amazing machine. It will start to accommodate these changes by compensating in other areas. The longer this goes on, the more difficult it is and the longer it takes to restore normal function and health to the affected area.

How is subluxation treated? As you might expect it depends. It depends on your specific subluxation condition, the severity of your condition, and your overall physical condition. We very well may determine that a digital x-ray (accomplished right here in our Newark chiropractic clinic) is required to identify the type and severity of your subluxation issues. Together, we will author and execute a chiropractic physical rehabilitation plan designed to steadily decrease your spine, neck, or joint pain while systematically improving your quality of life.
